The protagonists of "human rights",
whose sense of what exactly constitutes the infringement of the
same stops just short of the brutal killing field that is the
Kashmir valley, are predictably baying as loudly as hounds let
loose ; as usual, they are busy dishing out the usual gibberish
that "innocents" will be threatened and punished and
that the Act will be misused. It is a misfortune that every time
some measures are sought to be taken to combat the increasingly
blatant Muslim fanaticism, their agents in the
"intelligentsia" and the Press start advocating the
interests of the enemies of our nation … The "Times of
India" leads the pack with editorials denouncing the Vajpayee
Government's attempt to "whip up communal frenzy" at the
time of an important state election . How the enactment of a
safeguard against secessionism is "communalism" can only
be understood by the twisted minds of Marxists and pseudo-seculars
.
The main argument is that this Act will only be a tool in the
hands of vested interests who shall turn and twist it to further
empower themselves ; but isn't any law only as good as the
people in charge of enforcing it ? What do the so-called liberals
expect ? That we allow terrorists to roam the country free and shy
away from trying to come up with measures against them simply out
of fear that we might accidentally trample on "civil
liberties" by doing so ? In that case, it would mean that the
so-called "civil liberties" have become an end in
themselves with no importance at all to the extermination of stark
enemies of the nation . This is the same Gandhian non-violence
which is an end in itself with no concerns at all for whether the
guilty are being punished or not.
There is no alternative to steps like passing POTO if we
wish to strike terror in the hearts of those who seek to destroy
our nation . Such Acts are essentially meant to make people think
ten times before undertaking their anti-national ventures.
Berating such laws is like demanding the removal of all teeth of
the watch-dog for fear that it might go crazy and bite the master
himself ! If you wish that the law-enforcers act true and good,
better their working conditions by allotting them the very best
facilities to do their duties ; stop the cancer of political
interference in the execution of police duties …
These are the things that our "liberal intellectuals"
should be concerned about instead of wasting their time
criticizing any and every hard-core nationalist decision ….
