FATAL ATTRACTION
The Bush-Musharraf honeymoon must have had yet another rude
shock when the American embassy was attacked yesterday . And this
shock must have been felt by Bush more than by anyone else.
Musharraf for all practical purposes is either a puppet in the
hands of his Corps Commanders who control the myriad jihadi terror
groups or is their godfather. Coming back to Bush, given his
family's many hued investments in Arab lands, the American
commander-in-chief keeps trying his best to waltz with Muslim dons
in Riyadh and Jeddah - but their "boys" just can't
resist trying to trip him and step on his toes as and when they
wish. "Amreeka" is devil's land - and if it's Chief be
willing to go soft on master-minds, Osama and Co., for
safeguarding his business interests, it's well and good for these
soldiers of Allah. Armitage has already called Musharraf a
"man of honor"; perhaps he has been watching too many
Mafia story-books dealing with "men of honor" and the
term has seeped into his subconscious leading him to use it
unwittingly against a man he loathes in private but extols in
public. Either this is the reason for the US administration's
unholy nexus with Pakistan in it's operation for enduring peace or
it wants to keep Indian spirits down by repeatedly equating down
to Pakistan's pathetic levels. A strong and self-sufficient India
clearly doesn't fit the US scheme of things in Asian geopolitics,
hence the continuous sponsorship of Pakistan. The US policy can
backfire on the country . The same Osama and his jihadi men who
have been allowed by Bush to slip quietly into Pakistan and maybe
Saudi Arabia, can wreak more havoc in American cities. The Israeli
ambassador to India has rightly pointed out how it's only too
clear that the majority of taliban and Al Qaida fighters have been
allowed to escape, given the great difference betwen their
numerical strength inside Afghanistan before September 11th and
the number of their fighters that were killed in the "war
against terrorism". Someone needs to stand up and end this
hypocrisy that the US administration has been blatantly
exhibiting.
There can be no true war against terrorism unless people in
responsible positions maintain their honesty, integrity and stop
making their lives out of double standards.
